Trato de rodearme de gente, normalmente otros investigadores, naturalistas, amantes de la naturaleza... En la mayor parte de nuestras conversaciones o discusiones, estamos de acuerdo sobre determinados temas ambientales. Quizá, discrepamos en la manera de abordar algunas cosas, o los métodos óptimos para ello, pero la esencia, es la misma. Creemos que hay que conservar la naturaleza, porque de lo contrario no quedará nada.
Toda esta gente me aporta un conocimiento. Me ayuda a conocer la naturaleza, aprender técnicas científicas, o puntos de vista de distintas regiones.
Pero a veces tenemos que ir más allá. En primer lugar, conocemos únicamente una realidad social, de un país "rico", con una minoría de personas que dependen del campo (en comparación con por ejemplo, muchos países africanos) o un gran número, si lo comparamos con otras zonas de europa. Algunos de nosotros, nos hemos criado, en entornos ligados al campo (familiares agricultores o ganaderos) pero en muchos ámbitos de nuestra vida, parece que no dependemos directamente de él para comer. Si un año hay una mala cosecha, simplemente compraremos fruta o verdura de importación.
Por suerte, estos días he podido conocer a un buen grupo de amigos, lo que llamamos "big international family", gracias a un curso de intercambio de investigadores. He podido aprender gracias a Samuel, que la realidad social y la forma en qué el gobierno afronta los problemas del campo, es muy distinta en Etiopía de España; gracias a Teresa, que en Portugal, pese al estar tan cerca, hay cosas que no funcionan como en España. Podría seguir, hablando de cada uno de ellos, pero hay algo importante que quiero destacar.
Cuando he aprendido mucho, ha sido cuando nos hemos reunido con agricultores. Pese a que siempre, intento acercar la realidad a la sociedad, desde el blog o las redes sociales , creo que a veces no lo hacemos como debemos.
Cada uno ponemos nuestro granito de arena, y tratamos de hacer lo que está en nuestra mano. Pero a veces no lo hacemos, y es insuficiente. Los investigadores tenemos que estar en contacto con los agricultores, o la gente de campo a quien le atañen nuestros estudios. De lo contrario por muchos "artículos" que publiquemos, esto será inútil, pues no se llevará a la práctica (gracias a Paloma por esta reflexión).
Me gustaría llegar, me gustaría acercarme más a los agricultores y a la gente del campo. Pero no se hacer más de lo que hago. Blog, redes sociales, y charlas en el entorno rural.
Pero creo que hace falta hacer más. Desde las instituciones se debería buscar este acercamiento, entre agricultores e investigadores. Motivarnos a buscarnos mutuamente, porque ambos nos hacemos falta y, a veces, no nos encontramos.

We had been writting in this blog for a while, and even for more time I have been studying or in research.
I try to meet a lot of people, usually naturalist, researchers or nature lovers. In most of our chats or discussions we agree in certain topics. Even the fact that we disagree in few things, all of us want to save nature.
All these people give me knowledge. They help me to know nature and to learn scientific tecniques.
But sometimes we need to go further. First, we usually only know the reality from a single point of view. We live (in our case) in Spain, a "rich" country, with few people depending on agriculture (if we compare i.e. with Africa); but a lot of people in this sector, if we compare with other european countries.
Some of us grew up related to countryside; maybe some relatives were farmers. But definitely, we don´t depend on our field to eat. If we have a bad year, we just buy food from another country in the supermarket.
Luckily, last week I met a great group of friends, calling our "big international family", thanks to a training school. I could learn from Samuel, that goverment in Ethiophy has different policies related to agriculture than in Spain; and also Teresa told me than Portugal, environmental issues aren´t like in Spain (and we are so near!!). I could stay talking about them, because I really learnt a lot with this friends; but I want to outline something different.
When I also learnt a lot was with the meeting with farmers. Eventhough I always try to bring nature conservation to society with the blog or social networks, I think that maybe is not the only way.
Everyone try to do our best. But sometimes is not enought. Researches must keep in contact with farmers, or people that work dialy with the things we are working on. If not, even we write a lot of papers, our research would be useless (Thanks to Paloma for that thought).
I would like to bring it closer to country people. I try it, not only with blog, networks, but also local radio or informative talks in rural areas.
But I think more things should be done. Maybe from institutions or goverments should be the way to link researchers and farmers. Because we need each other, and sometimes we can´t find us.
